Brownfield Cleanup Grant Paves Way for New 经济适用房 发展

The Invest Atlanta Board has approved a $550,000 brownfield cleanup subgrant for the remediation of a contaminated site in South Atlanta prior to its development.

The grant, funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), was awarded to FCS Urban Ministries Inc.,来处理0.53-acre property on McDonough Boulevard that was compromised by previous petroleum service stations and nearby dry-cleaning facilities.  The grant will remediate contaminated soil and remove asbestos-containing material. Vapor barriers will also be installed to mitigate contamination from the former dry-cleaning sites.

一旦完成, FCS Urban Ministries will redevelop the property into two, three-story buildings that will house 18 apartment units – 12 of which will be made affordable serving 60% area median income and below. The development will also include a third, two-story building that will house a restaurant tenant with below-market rents.

The $8 million project is expected to create 25 jobs and is located .5 miles from the 亚特兰大腰围. FCS Urban Ministries is a nonprofit community developer that has worked in South Atlanta for more than 20 years.
